3 rules for natural hair care for colored hair

Dryness, amazing - and not always pleasant - transformations of the shade, accelerated sectioning of the ends and, finally, the "tow effect", especially relevant when lightening - this is not a complete list of problems that owners of colored hair face. The severity of all these troubles varies: it all depends on the initial state of your hair, the aggressiveness of the dyeing and the quality of the dye, and, of course, on the literacy of care, but it is indisputable that if the dye touched your curls, you will have to take this circumstance into account in your care, applying an extended line of products. Finding out how to minimize damage and keep your colored hair healthy.

Natural paints - yes or no?

The very phrase "natural paint" causes a tremor of horror in many: everyone remembers the good old bags of henna and basma, after dyeing with which the hair acquired the most fantastic shades. But with modern natural paints, the situation is completely different. Thanks to the composition and method of application, it is very difficult to mess with the color, and in most cases, very pleasant, natural shades are obtained. Of course, naturalness imposes its limitations: when dyeing with such paint, you will not get a complex unnatural color like "cold cappuccino" or "strawberry blond", and it will not cope with serious lightening (there are also light natural hair dyes, but they are more likely to work on shade, and not "burn out" the pigment). But natural dyes retain their main and indisputable plus: they do not spoil the hair. Generally. And many also note an additional caring effect, which is expressed in the fact that the hair after dyeing becomes denser and stronger. Therefore, if your "native" hair color varies from medium blond to dark brown, and you want to improve your hair color, perhaps paint over some gray hair, we recommend that you consider using a natural dye.

What "eats" the paint?

Masks, oils, revitalizing blends, balms are all great hair care, but if your hair is dyed, there is one small but important point to consider. The fact is that some components in both natural and synthetic products can "eat" the pigment of your paint; in fact, this is expressed in the fact that the color of your hair literally fades before your eyes and fades after some mask or serum - up to a color change (especially if you have a complex color prone to transformations, for example, chestnut-red, reddish, honey ).

What cosmetics is capable of such deceit? Oddly enough, the most varied: from natural oils to active regenerating ingredients, acids, etc. Something like a clash of interests happens: the penetrating oil or cleansing ingredient works great at its task, revitalizing, nourishing and exfoliating, but at the same time - at the same time - and knocks out the pigment, causing the hair color to fade. Moreover, this can happen when using the most innocent and in terms of composition and reputation of funds.

What to do?

The good news: cosmetics only have this effect when kept for a long time, for example, if you apply oil to the entire length and roots, wrap yourself in a towel and leave this mask for 3-4 hours or overnight. Make exactly the same mask for 1 hour - and everything will be fine. If you notice that it is difficult for you to maintain the saturation and brightness of your hair color, try to use products that do not stay on your hair for a long time - conditioners, express masks.

Most of the tips for caring for colored hair do not differ from what you do every day (for example, choose the right type of shampoo or protect your hair from ultraviolet radiation), but there are 3 Care Rules that will help you to preserve the color and health of your hair, regardless on whether you used natural or synthetic paint:

  1. Many are afraid to wash their hair too often, fearing to "wash" the color, and this makes sense, but still one nuance is important. Washing, even frequent washing using a mild shampoo, will affect the color much less than washing it infrequently but aggressively with shampoo that washes “squeaky” or even labeled as cleansing. Therefore, do not be afraid to wash your hair as often as necessary, but be sure to choose the most gentle, gentle shampoo - moisturizing or nourishing, without aggressively cleansing ingredients and, of course, synthetic sulfates. One more tip: to wash your hair, use not hot, but moderately warm water - about 40-45 degrees, slightly hotter than body temperature. Water of this temperature completely rinses off the shampoo, but does not dry out the scalp and has a minimal effect on the hair itself, not contributing to the fading of the shade and its change.
  2. Should I give up oils and oil masks for hair? Of course not! But it is worth using them correctly. First, do not apply the oil to your hair for longer than 40-60 minutes. Applied, wrapped, held - and washed off. Second, alternate your oils with other natural masks. Also, do not forget about an alternative - and suitable for owners of colored hair - use of natural oils: they can be added to shampoos, or even better - to conditioners and hair balms. How much? 3-4 drops per serving of the product will be enough, do not overdo it, otherwise the hair may look greasy, even after thorough washing, without volume.
Tip: A popular way to use coconut oil is as a conditioner: after washing, apply literally 1-2 drops of coconut oil to the ends (or the entire length), gently distribute and hold for 2-3 minutes, and then rinse thoroughly with warm water. The effect is like a nourishing balm ... and no harm to the shade!
  3. Coloring can affect the scalp and the root area in different ways, but the ends of the paint almost always dries, and when lightened, this effect can become catastrophic. What to do? Be sure to use conditioner after each wash, apply a regenerating mask to your hair at least 1 time per week (pay special attention to the lower part of your hair) and, finally, do not forget about indelible end care. It is an indelible conditioner or a drop of protective oil (from natural, it will protect well, restore and not damage the color of broccoli oil, jojoba and coconut oil are also suitable) that will significantly reduce splitting of the hair ends, as well as soften and restore elasticity to the hair.

An important rule of caring for dyed hair: use thermal styling methods as little as possible, especially with regard to straightening and frequent use of curling irons. The fact is that hair dyed with chemical dye and bleached hair is already weakened, experiencing stress, and if, at the same time, they are constantly exposed to high temperatures, pulled, twisted, combed furiously, all that can be expected is increased fragility , overdriedness, porosity. The same notorious "tow" instead of shiny and beautiful curls. To prevent this from happening, blow dry your hair with warm air, style it carefully.
