Basil Essential Oil

Benefits of basil essential oil

Ocimum basilicum L. (sweet basil) belongs to the Lamiaceae family of plants, which includes about 200 different botanical species and forms of basil found all over the world! With an organically sweet, warm, herbaceous aroma, basil essential oil can be applied in a variety of ways, both externally and internally.

Benefits of Basil essential oil include:

  • Fight bacteria
  • Fight infection
  • Fight against pathogenic inflammation
  • Reduced damage caused by free radicals
  • Fight against viruses
  • Reduced fatigue
  • Increased urine production
  • Stimulating the nervous system
  • Stimulating the adrenal cortex

While fresh basil leaves also have a number of health benefits and a wonderful flavor in recipes, basil essential oil is significantly more concentrated and powerful than the leaves. Basil essential oil components are extracted by steam distillation from fresh basil leaves, stems and flowers. These components add up to an extract that has extremely high levels of antioxidants and other beneficial phytochemicals.

As a result, we obtain an effective and all-natural formula that helps in the treatment of cardiovascular conditions, as well as muscle pain, emotional disorders and imbalances in the immune system.

The aromatic character of each type of basil is determined by the genotype of the plant and the main chemical components. Sweet basil essential oil is composed primarily of monoterpenes and phenylpropanoids. The main share of the 25 different active ingredients found in essential oil of basil, which form 98.3% of the specific volume of the total oil, are methyleugenol (min. 25%) and methylavicol (min. 70%).

Uses of Basil Essential Oil

Antibacterial and antifungal

Basil essential oil has shown anti-microbiotic activity against a wide range of foodborne bacteria, yeast and mold. In tests, the researchers found that the growth of six different types of bacteria and three fungal crops was strongly inhibited, causing extreme food poisoning. Basil essential oil can be used at home to eliminate bacteria in your kitchen and bathroom, to prevent contamination, and to decontaminate indoor air. Use basil essential oil in a spray bottle to spray onto surfaces in your home before wiping.

Air freshener

Basil essential oil has the ability to kill bacteria and mold that cause bad odors in your home, car, appliances and furniture. In fact, the name “basil” is derived from the ancient Greek word for “smell”. In India, this plant is traditionally used in cooking, not only for cooking, but also for removing odors after it, as well as cleaning kitchen utensils. Run a rag dipped in a few drops of basil essential oil through your kitchen and appliances, and mix the essential oil with baking soda to remove stains and pathogenic bacteria from your pans and pots. Basil essential oil can also be sprayed in the toilet (as an option, add 5-10 drops to the cistern), in the shower, and you can also wipe the trash can (pre-washed, of course J).

Flavor enhancer

Basil essential oil is used in a wide variety of culinary recipes to enhance the finished smell and taste with its characteristic "sound". Add a drop or two to a large amount of juices, smoothies, sauces, or salad toppings instead of using fresh basil leaves. Remember that by using basil essential oil, you will improve the flavor in your kitchen and completely eliminate the risk of contaminating food with putrefactive bacteria.

Muscle relaxant

Basil essential oil is useful for treating tired or aching muscles. To eliminate these effects, it is enough to wipe the desired areas (bruises, bumps, swelling, aching joints) with a mixture of melted coconut oil and a couple of drops of basil essential oil. To consolidate the effect, or even an alternative to rubbing, take a hot bath with sea salt (contraindicated during pregnancy! However, if you are pregnant, you yourself know this, don't you?;), To which add a few drops of essential oils of basil and lavender, diluted previously in an emulsifier (milk works well, but not skim!).

Fortification of toothpaste or mouthwash

To eliminate bacteria (and therefore odor) from your mouth, add a few drops of basil essential oil to your mouthwash or toothpaste. It will also help protect your teeth and gums from viral sores and rashes.

Energetic and mood modulator

Breathing in the scent of basil essential oil can reduce anxiety and give strength to a tired body. Basil essential oil vapors act as a natural stimulant that affects the nervous system and adrenal cortex. Great for treating symptoms such as sluggishness, blurred mind, muscle fatigue, depressed mood, etc. "Adrenal fatigue" and chronic fatigue. Diffuse the essential oil indoors with an aroma diffuser or use it in an aromaculon to naturally stimulate the adrenal glands, which are responsible for the production of a variety of hormones, including corticosteroids and adrenaline, a hormone that increases blood pressure, and maintains normal tone of blood vessels, muscle tone, emotional and physical activity. If you do not have an individual intolerance to basil essential oil, you can apply a few swabs of pure oil to your wrists, chest and back for an instant effect.

Acne treatment

Because Skin problems are mainly caused by bacteria and excess oil production, and also have a relatively limited area, basil essential oil can be used as a home remedy for acne. Treat the affected area with a cotton ball (or ear cotton swab) dipped in a few drops of basil essential oil dissolved in a base oil (coconut or jojoba oil) once or twice a day for a week until the improvement occurs.

Improving digestion

As a diuretic, basil essential oil helps to increase urine production, which can reduce fluid retention in the body and reduce the chances of bloating and other digestive upsets. Basil essential oil is also an effective antispasmodic agent that helps to eliminate colic caused by gastrointestinal diseases, discomfort caused by individual sensitivity to certain foods, as well as painful manifestations of PMS. Basil essential oil is also used to relieve constipation, eliminate nausea and gastrointestinal disturbances. Pure basil essential oil can be added one to two drops at a time to warm water or tea, or it can be rubbed directly into areas of concern (lower back and abdomen).

Dealing with stress

Basil essential oil is renowned for its ability to raise mood and renew the "emotional map", which is an excellent remedy for dealing with disorders such as overexcitement, anxiety and nervousness. For centuries, basil essential oil has been used to relieve obsessional conditions and hopping thoughts. Today, you can use the ultrasonic aroma diffuser at home to relax and unwind. This aromatherapy use of basil essential oil can also be used as a quick pain reliever for headaches. For a longer lasting effect, massage your feet or lower back using a mixture of 1-2 drops of basil essential oil and 10-15 drops of base oil before bed.

Improving hair shine

To eliminate the effects of greasy hair and tangles while increasing shine, add a drop or two of basil to your shampoo. Also, if you are a 100% natural addict, you can add basil essential oil with baking soda and apple cider vinegar. The resulting mixture is excellent at fighting bacteria, hair grease and tangles.
