CheckoutCharacteristics of Geranium Oil
The most fragrant are not bright geranium inflorescences-umbrellas at all, but rounded elegant leaves from which the famous and one of the most expensive (along with jasmine and rose oil) aromatic oils are extracted by steam distillation.
It is a very light, surprisingly liquid and flowing oil that dissolves almost instantly and completely in vegetable and base oils. Its color reminds of the bright color of the leaves: yellowish-green, with a clear lime hint and olive shade, the color of pelargonium oil is complemented by absolute transparency. If you look at the sun, the oil seems radiant.
The characteristic smell of geranium leaves is completely transmitted to the oil, which, despite its “green” origin, retains the fruity base of the smell, complemented by tart, bitter and sweet notes. Sweet-floral nuances are the first to be perceived, followed by medium warm halftones, which are replaced by a tart, bitter basis of aroma. It is believed that geranium is a fragrance of mature and confident women.
Despite the fact that geranium oil has a very specific and vibrant odor, it goes well with other essential oils that lie on its rather warm base. Many authors as a combination of aroma well combined with the smell of pelargonium indicate only eucalyptus, but in fact the list of complementary aromas is much wider: geranium goes well with verbena, citronella, lemon balm, lemon, sage, basil, cypress, myrtle, chamomile, pine, naioli, hyssop, mint, sandalwood and tea tree.
Emotional action
In the emotional sphere, geraniums evoke positive emotions, relaxes, optimistic, helping to cope with feelings, fears, tension and relieve symptoms of fatigue and stress. This is one of the essential oils to fight depression and apathy. Restoring inner harmony, it promotes adequate self-perception and opens the way to positive life changes, increases physical and mental activity.
But the most important influence of pelargonium oil is related to self-esteem: thanks to this essential oil, you can get rid of dependence on other people's opinions, uncertainty, complexes, recover from losses and unpleasant meetings, adequately perceive motives and actions.
Healing properties
As already mentioned, geranium oil is one of the main ancient remedies for the treatment of diseases of the oral cavity, ears, throat and sinus, including dental problems, while the aromatic oil not only eliminates stagnant and inflammatory processes, but also relieves pain symptoms.
Pelargonium oil also regulates the work of the vascular system, digestive system and heart (stimulates the work of muscles, normalizes the intensity of contractions, helps stabilize arrhythmia, ischemia and tachycardia).
In addition, geranium helps eliminate the tendency to hypertension and is one of the most effective essential oils for regulating blood sugar levels. This is one of the main “female” oils, which not only relieves inflammation, but also regulates, balances the hormonal background, and removes the negative manifestations of its disorders. Pelargonium oil is also used to treat varicose veins and hemorrhoids.
Use in cosmetology and at home
Pelargonium oil can be used for any cosmetics and for all skin types. This magical aromatic oil effectively restores the epidermis, promotes its deep rejuvenation and smoothing, regenerates and renews, and also has a regulatory effect on fat balance. This is one of the most effective oils for working with problematic, teenage, mature, prone to excessive dryness or vice versa pathological oily skin. Pelargonium also evens out the properties of the skin of a combined type.
Geranium oil has a double effect on the skin: on the one hand, it quickly removes inflammation and peeling, and on the other it causes systemic positive changes. The anti-inflammatory properties of geranium oil in combination with unique regenerating "talents" are actively used in the treatment of cellulite, frostbite, eczema, cuts, burns and wounds.
Geranium oil has one more remarkable property - it helps to get rid of all annoying insects that cannot tolerate its smell.
Pelargonium oil can also be used to flavor various dishes and drinks in cooking.
Dosages and contraindications
Since geranium oil actively changes the hormonal background, it can not be used during pregnancy and children under the age of 6 years, as well as while taking birth control pills. Lowering blood sugar and the anticoagulant properties of geraniums require special attention: this essential oil can not be used for longer than 3 weeks, or better for at least 2 weeks in a row.
Geranium essential oil is perhaps the only one that does not cause any reaction when applied to the skin. It is taken internally, but not on an empty stomach (no more than 1 drop 2 times a day with honey). Geranium oil has a strong aroma, so it is always consumed in reduced dosages.
