CheckoutFacial skin care in the cold season
The time has passed for summer vacations, bronze tans and bathing in the warm sea. The time of golden leaves, “Indian summer” and the farewell warmth of the gentle autumn sun has ended. A cloudy gray sky piercing through the cold wind, annoying, chopping a small rain in the face and puddles underfoot. The first, still light frosts. Columns of thermometers slowly crawled down.
Throughout the year, our body adapts to weather conditions, tries to withstand adverse environmental factors. Seasonal changes in weather conditions, diet and our pastime have the most severe effect on the skin of the face, body and hair.
The advent of the new season also includes a new approach to your skin care. How to help our body cope with the adverse effects of excessive summer sunbathing, salty sea water and dry, hot wind? How to help our skin adapt to the cold season and prepare it for winter winds and frosts? We will try to answer these and other questions in our article today.
What kind of "baggage" our skin entered in the cold season and what difficulties she will have to face at this time.
All summer, our skin was under the active influence of ultraviolet rays. We sunbathed for a long time, trying to get a beautiful chocolate skin tone, often bathed for a long time, moreover, many in salty sea water, after which, again, they dried out under the scorching sun and hot dry wind. Such conditions lead to the fact that the epidermis (the outer layer of the skin) thickens. And, as a result, the outflow of sebum from the sebaceous glands is disrupted. And this can lead to the appearance of various types of skin rashes and acne. In addition, under the influence of ultraviolet radiation, as a result of sunburn, many can form light and dark age spots, freckles, and vascular networks.
Ultimately, by the beginning of the cold weather, the skin often looks quite “problematic”, groomed and overdried. The whole picture is exacerbated by sudden changes in temperature. The cold wind and low air temperature cause a feeling of dryness and tightness. The skin becomes dull, dull and lifeless. In addition, the general condition of the body is undermined by the first colds and viral infections. And this also affects the condition of the skin. Therefore, we need to pay particular attention to the condition of the skin and, if necessary, take urgent measures to improve its condition.
There is a recognized algorithm for facial skin care in the cold season, which was developed by specialists in the field of beauty and health. This algorithm is a phased system for restoring the skin of the face and body after the summer period and preparing it for the cold season.
So, proper and proper skin care at this time should consist of four basic elements.
Four components of skin care in autumn and winter
- Cleansing and toning;
- Recovery and hydration;
- Update and get rid of age spots (for those who have them after the summer);
- Protection and nutrition.
Cleansing and toning
The cleansers that you use should not only remove dirt that has settled on the skin, but also cleanse the skin of the products of its own metabolism - sebum, keratinized old skin cells. The cleanser must be selected taking into account the type of skin: for oily, problem skin - gel or foam for washing, for other types - cleansing milk, cream or cleansing serum. Regardless of skin type, easy cleaning should be done twice a day, morning and evening, after removing makeup. It is worth paying attention to the oil cleansing method, which will not deprive your skin of moisture and after which you will not need to apply a greasy cream to your skin. For these purposes, we recommend refined coconut oil, peach seed oil, and refined avocado oil.
For daily skin cleansing, you can pick up ready-made lotions in specialized stores (preferably containing natural ingredients), or prepare such a lotion yourself. For example, squeeze out 2-3 aloe vera leaves and dilute it with 2-3 tablespoons of warm water. This amount is enough for several cleansing procedures. Lotion can be stored at room temperature.
For deeper cleaning and exfoliation of keratinized skin particles, clay masks can be made 2-3 times a month. Mix 2 tablespoons of clay powder with 3 tablespoons of pure water and 1 teaspoon of glycerin. Apply the mixture on the skin with a thin layer, let the mixture dry completely, and then rinse off the mask with warm water. You can also make a scrub based on natural ingredients. For example, from a mixture of cocoa butter and coffee grounds. But remember that scrubs should not be abused. In order not to damage the skin, such a peeling should be done no more than once a week.
It is also recommended that you go to the cosmetology room, where the cosmetologist can recommend and conduct various hardware methods of skin cleansing or peeling for you - a different process of removing dead skin cells with various chemical (organic) substances. In addition to cleansing the skin, peeling will help to cope with various cosmetic defects. Together with age spots, fine wrinkles will also disappear, the oval of the face will be tightened, as the skin's elasticity will increase.
Particular attention at this time of the year should be given to skin toning. The tonic should not contain alcohol. For skin with inflammatory processes, it is good to use a tonic of your own preparation. For example, add 6-8 drops of tea tree essential oil to the infused chamomile broth (1 liter). For normal skin: for 1 liter of boiled defended water 3 drops of lavender essential oil, 3 drops of verbena essential oil, 2 drops of ginger essential oil. Use this composition as a tonic.
Peach seed oil has a good anti-inflammatory, regenerating, tonic, anti-aging effect on the skin.
Quickly bring the skin into tone morning contrast compress. Wet a terry cloth in a warm marigold broth with 2 drops of verbena essential oil (Litsei cubeba). Put this napkin on your face for 30 seconds. Then wet a napkin in a cold broth of calendula and blot your face.
Before applying any skin care product (cream) to the skin, it is very useful for the skin to refresh the face with an ice cube made from standing water with the addition of tea tree essential oil or eucalyptus.
Recovery and hydration
Moisturizing the skin, especially in the dry summer, is required daily. Therefore, every time, after peeling or facial cleansing, it is necessary to apply a moisturizer (for normal skin type) or a cream based on oily skin, adding, enriching it with essential oils. Instead of cream, natural oils give a good effect for dry skin types. Organic natural oils in combination with essential oils moisturize the skin well.
The basis is taken any base or, as it is also called, bearing oil. Excellent carrier oils for dry skin are sweet almond oils, refined or unrefined avocado oil, evening primrose, jojoba, peach seed, rice bran oil, coconut oil. Shea butter (karite) is considered one of the best oils for moisturizing the skin. Remember that when using essential oils, care must be taken - applying them in pure form to the skin can cause irritation, burns, hyperpigmentation of the skin. Therefore, when mixing oils, the correct and safe proportions must be observed. For example,
Dry skin. Enrichment of cream or base oil.
Recommended essential oils: sandalwood, rosewood, jasmine, patchouli, geranium, orange.
Base oil: any of the above.
For 10ml of base add 1-2 drops of essential oils of sandalwood, rosewood and patchouli.
You can experiment and make your own oil compositions. Just remember the dosage - 3-4 drops of essential oil per 10 ml. base oil. Steam baths with essential oils are useful for the skin (2 drops of sandalwood essential oil and 2-3 drops of rosewood oil per 0.5 liters of water).
Dry skin is a problem, rather, inside the body, and not outside. Drink enough water throughout the day to keep your skin radiant and youthful. To maintain the water balance in the body, it is recommended to observe a drinking regimen at the level of about 1.5-2 liters of ordinary water per day or more, especially if you regularly exercise or diet.
It is also important to remember that a daily moisturizer must be applied to the skin of the face at least 30 minutes before going outside. Otherwise, at low air temperature, the moisture in the cream will turn into ice crystals, which can cause microtrauma to the skin.
Updating and getting rid of age spots
As we said above, in many, as a result of prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (after a solar resort or abuse of a solarium), areas of hyper- or hypopigmentation (age spots) may appear on the body. Whitening masks will help to solve this problem. For example, a mask prepared on the basis of oatmeal will help get rid of pigmentation:
- 1 tbsp. chopped oatmeal flakes
- 1 tbsp. spoon of olive oil
- 1 tbsp. spoon of honey
- 1 tbsp. a spoonful of fresh orange juice
- A few drops of vitamin E, A (they can be bought at any pharmacy, in capsules).
You can add an egg, salt or sugar to the mask. With dry skin, the protein must be replaced with yolk, and sugar should be used instead of salt. Mix all the ingredients, apply on face for 20 minutes. Then wash with green tea or chamomile infusion.
Curd-egg mask for dry skin. To prepare such a mask from 2 teaspoons of cottage cheese, one egg yolk and 10 drops of hydrogen peroxide. The components must be thoroughly mixed to a homogeneous consistency and applied to cleansed skin for 10 minutes. Then rinse with warm water.
With combination and oily skin, you can use a cucumber whitening mask. Finely grate the cucumber. Add vodka to it in a ratio of 1: 1 and leave the mass for 30 minutes. After settling, moisten a gauze dressing in this mass and apply on face for 20 minutes. At the end of the procedure, wash your face with warm water and apply a cream that promotes skin rejuvenation (for example, containing retinol).
Also, instead of a cream, you can successfully use natural oils that stimulate the growth and strengthening of the tone of collagen fibers. Argan oil, grape seed oil, Mona de Tahiti is very suitable for these purposes.
To get rid of age spots, unrefined avocado oil is considered the most effective.
The vascular pattern on the skin can be reduced using lemon and rosewood essential oil. These oils significantly reduce the visible vascular pattern on the skin (2 drops of essential oils per 50 milliliters of neutral cream or base oil). The use of unrefined cocoa butter is also effective.
Protection and nutrition
In the cold season, not only dry skin needs plentiful nutrition and protection, but also combination, normal and even oily skin. The main rule in the cold: the more adverse weather on the street, the more intense the protection should be. The lower the temperature outside the window and the longer you plan to stay outside, the fatter the day cream or oil is required. But be careful and don't overdo it. Since such a cream, when heated in a room, can clog pores and impede the access of oxygen to the skin. Use creams marked “protective” or “regenerating” to establish a protective skin barrier. But do not forget that the cream must be applied to the skin of the face at least 30-40 minutes before going outside so that the cream has completely absorbed.
In order to protect the skin from adverse weather effects, you can use natural oils. For example, jojoba oil.
This oil is of rather thick consistency, with extremely high penetrating and suction ability. It provides a protective layer and does not leave an oily sheen on the skin. Apply oil on the face, on the skin of the hands and let it soak well. Excess oil can be dampened with a paper towel.
It is very important to nourish the skin. Especially acute at this time of year, the skin needs vitamin C. To saturate the skin with vitamins, you can independently prepare vitamin masks. For dry skin, a mask is suitable, which includes grated apple, sour cream and olive oil. For oily skin, you can prepare a mask of grated apple and egg white. And if you combine applesauce with low-fat cottage cheese, you can get a universal refreshing mask suitable for any type of skin.
Masks prepared on the basis of oatmeal well nourish the skin. Here are some recipes for making these masks for different skin types.
For normal or combination skin:
- 1 tbsp. a spoon of oatmeal
- 1 teaspoon natural yogurt
- 1 teaspoon of honey
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
Mix all the ingredients to a thick sour cream, put on a pre-cleaned face. Apply the mask for 15 minutes, during this time all the necessary substances and trace elements penetrate the upper layer of your skin and nourish it, providing a softening, moisturizing and cleansing effect. Wash off the mask with warm water.
Oatmeal mask for oily skin
Calendula flowers, insist on a water bath for 20 minutes, then strain through a fine sieve or gauze.
Mix the broth with 1 tablespoon of chopped oatmeal until the required density so that the mask does not spread. Apply mask to face. After 20 minutes, you can rinse with water, changing the temperature from warm to cold.
Oatmeal face mask for dry skin
- 1 tbsp. spoon of oatmeal (ground)
- 1 tbsp. spoon of tomato juice
Mix thoroughly and apply on face for 20 minutes. The mask must be washed off with cool water.
What else is important for your skin?
In addition to the external saturation of the skin with vitamins, it is necessary not to forget about the vitamins in the diet of our diet in order to, so to speak, nourish the skin from the inside. Try to include more foods that contain vitamin C in your diet. These are citrus fruits, apples, sweet peppers, kiwi, cabbage, greens. All B vitamins stimulate metabolic processes in the skin. Vitamin "A" makes it velvety and supple, vitamin "E" supplies oxygen, slows down the formation of wrinkles, calcium strengthens nails, magnesium improves cell nutrition.
Do not neglect regular walks and active pastime in the fresh air - the skin must breathe. Do not abuse lengthy bathing procedures: hot water takes moisture from the skin. Therefore, the stay in the bath should be limited (ideally) to 10-15 minutes, and the water temperature should be 36 ° C.
Delicate hand skin also needs additional protection. If, in your opinion, gloves do not yet have a place in the autumn wardrobe, you should protect your skin with a protective cream - they can and should be used all day. To prevent the skin of your hands from becoming rough, wash them with exceptionally warm water. Trays of vegetable oils will pleasantly delight your hands at the end of the day, and Shea butter (shea) will protect the skin of your hands, moisturize it and give you soft and well-groomed skin.
We hope that our tips will help protect your skin from the adverse effects of the cold season, and throughout this period you will look healthy, beautiful, young and well-groomed.
